Phil

Mr. Phil Ashley, Chairman

I am a proud graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School, class of 1971. I received my Master of Education and my Educational Specialist degrees from Clemson University in 1980 and 1984 respectively. Furthering my education at Anderson College, now Anderson University,  and earning my Bachelor of Music in music education at Mars Hill College, now Mars Hill University. I began my teaching career in Anderson District Two in November of 1975 at Honea Path Middle School and Wright Elementary. In the fall of 1976, I became the music teacher at Honea Path Elementary and after a few years added Wright Elementary and taught until I retired in June of 2006.

I began work at Anderson University in January of 2007 as a supervisor of student teachers, and in 2011, I was hired as an assistant professor and was the Coordinator of Field Placements, a position I did got two years. I have returned to part time at the University now, supervising and teaching a graduate class.    

I was elected to the Board in 2012, representing Area 2. However, I represent all the people of our district.  
I attend the Belton Presbyterian Church and sing in the choir. My hobbies are traveling and working out at the gym.   
It is my honor to represent all the people of our district and have an open door policy as your board member.

Jimmy 

Mr. Jimmy Ouzts, Vice-Chairman

Born an raised in Greenwood. Attended Furman University and earned a BA. Also earned a MEd and EdS from Clemson University. Retired from Belton-Honea Path High School after 38 years. Served as a teacher and coach for 12 years, assistant principal for 10 years, and principal for 16 years.

Married to Abby and have two children and four grandchildren. Currently serve on the Belton Area Museum Association Board and the Anderson County Alternative School Board.

Brenda

Mrs. Brenda Cooley, Secretary

Mrs. Cooley is very honored to serve on the Anderson County School District Two Board of Trustees. Recently she was presented with an award for 15 years of service to the district. Mrs. Cooley holds a BS degree in Business Administration from Limestone College. She earned her MBA from Webster University.

Having worked in the education field for the past 46 years, she had the pleasure of working in Anderson District Two for 30 of those years. The other 16 years have been spent in college settings with her currently working in the Department of Teacher Education at Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina. She will tell anyone that “Anderson District Two is the best district in the state of South Carolina.”  

Mrs. Cooley is married to Terry, a retired banker, and they have one daughter. Jennifer, who is employed at Lander University.  Both Jennifer and Terry are products of the schools in Anderson District Two.

Mrs. Cooley is so very proud of the students, educators, and parents in ANDERSON DISTRICT TWO.

Bonnie Knight

As your board representative for Area Four, I am proud to say that I am a product of the Anderson District Two school system. After graduating from Belton Honea Path High School, I attended Erskine College where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and added certification in the Special Education areas of Learning Disabilities (LD) and Educable Mentally Disabled (EMD). Later in my career, I received a Master’s Degree from Clemson University in Supervision and Administration. I taught for 19 years and worked in administration for the last 18 years of my career serving as an Assistant Principal at Belton Middle School, Principal at Belton Elementary School, and Director of Instruction at the district level. While teaching in Anderson District Five, I was recognized as the 1993 District Teacher of the Year. I currently work with Anderson University in the Department of Education where I observe, coach, and complete evaluations on students in the Special Education program. I also contract with Western Governors University where I supervise student teachers during their
Demonstration Teaching time.

I am married to Marty Knight, and we reside on Blue Ridge Avenue where we live happily with 3 dogs, 2 cats and 3 horses. We have 2 children and 4 grandchildren who are the greatest blessings in our lives. Marty and I attend Neals Creek Baptist Church where I am an assistant pianist/organist working with the music program as needed. I enjoy time at the beach, watching the grandkids play football, baseball and volleyball as I have the opportunity, and finally relaxing with a great book in my hands.

Julia Barnes

Dr. Julia Barnes is honored to have been elected to serve on the District Two Board of Trustees for Area 3. Julia Barnes has a doctoral degree in early & middle childhood education, in addition to her masters degree in library science & bachelors degree in English. Dr. Barnes retired from School District Two but continues to keep her teaching credentials updated (English, Social Studies, Library Science, & Special Education). In her life of continuing professional service, Dr. Barnes serves as a student teacher supervisor-evaluator for Converse College and teaches in the education programs for Nova Southeastern University. 

An active member of the National Association of Parliamentarians & numerous heritage organizations, community service is important to her.  She currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Anderson County Museum Advisory Committee.  She believes in life-long education and is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts degree in History at Clemson University. Her interests include family genealogy research, horsemanship, and technology. She is married to Michael Barnes. Her daughter, Mary Lin Ashley Barnes (Mrs. Jason Barnes), is a graduate of BHP and currently resides in California, working with special needs adults.

Kevin

Mr. Kevin Craft

I am Kevin T. Craft, very proud to be a BHP Bear and very proud that my community voted to elect me to serve them as Anderson County School Board Trustee for District 2 Area 1. I have 27 years of business experience as the President of IMS of Belton, Inc. a General and Mechanical Contracting company specializing working for industrial companies such as Milliken, Michelin, First Quality and many more. I graduated from Clemson University in 1992 with a BS in Business Management. I have been appointed by Anderson County Council to serve on the Anderson County Economic Development Board, and I also serve on the Belton Alliance Board, serving as the Belton Economic Committee Chairman. My wife Mandy and I have one son Ross who is 13 and attends Belton Middle School. I grew up attending school in Honea Path and attending Barkers Creek Baptist Church. Our family now lives in Belton and are members of Belton First Baptist Church. My hobbies are golf, fishing, hunting, reading and snow skiing.

William Stu Shirley

I am a proud graduate of Belton Honea Path High School, Class of 1978 and have spent most of my adult life in Bulk Material Handling Equipment Manufacturing, Design and Sales.  I began my career in manufacturing with Jeffrey-Dresser / Goodman Conveyor in 1978 and remained Through 2013 with a (20) month hiatus to Drive 18 Wheelers in parts of 1991 to parts of 1993.  I am extremely computer literate and write spreadsheets that are used by many locations around the country to design and sell conveyors.  These spreadsheets are written based on the formulas taught to me at BHP in algebra and geometry. 

When Goodman closed in 2013, I accepted a position with TPI Engineered Systems, Inc. a long-time customer of Goodman and have remained with them as a Product Specialist, Product Manager and now Sales Manager for our locations in Richmond, Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia, Tampa Florida and Bowdon, Georgia while working out of our Sales and Engineering office in Honea Path, South Carolina. 

I am a lifelong resident of the Belton - Honea Path Area and have been Married to my wife Shirley since 1981.
  Shirley recently retired from District #2.  We attend Shady Grove Baptist Church and are extremely proud Parents and Grandparents.  Our Son Clay Shirley and His wife Brittany Newman Shirley both attended District 2 Schools, Anderson University and now both Teach in our District.  Clay and Brittany have given us two wonderful granddaughters, Lucy Grace and Charlotte Faith, who will both soon be attending District 2 Schools.  I pledge to do my absolute best so that they will have the same opportunity to receive the quality education I received that will prepare them for their next step in life.
