FFA at BHP

The BHP
FFA Chapter is currently building a 13' x 40' shed on campus. The students are using the school's brand new sawmill to mill the lumber for the shed. The logs that are being used to create the shed are coming from the land that the district purchased across the street from the high school. Lessons include tool safety, measurements, concrete, surveying, wood construction, board foot calculations, tree identification, tree growth and chainsaw safety.

Utilizing the sawmill in construction of the new shed has helped the students by incorporating hands on activities that coincide with classroom instruction. The students also truly enjoy seeing something being built from their hard work and effort!

FFA at Belton and Honea Path Middle Schools

FFA
is now offered at the middle school level in ASD2! We received our official FFA charter from SC FFA at the latest board meeting. We hosted FFA Parent Night on Tuesday, September 19th, and had an outstanding crowd of approximately 90 to 100 parents and students in attendance.

MS FFA

The Belton - Honea Path Middle School Agricultural Education program has gotten off to a fast start this school year. Our program serves 300 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at HPMS and BMS. One ongoing project that students have begun at each campus is the construction of a 8' x 12' chicken coop to house hens in the coming months.

The FFA chapter is moving at break neck pace as we are on the verge of several FFA trips in the coming months between SC FFA Day at the Fair, BHP Farm Day, and the SC Farm Bureau Ag Tailgate at Clemson University. Students will begin practice for the Livestock Evaluation CDE next week.
